SpongeBob has been said to be pro-gay and have gay undertones. But do to a commentary there is a new question, are the characters really based on the 7 deadly sins (1)? According to a commentary on the season 1 DVD Doug Lawrence (voice of many characters on SpongeBob such as Plankton (2)) said that Stephen Hillenburg (creator of SpongeBob (3)) based 7 main characters on the seven deadly sins (1). Now you may ask yourself who the characters are. As to my knowledge people on SpongeBob are not speaking on the subject of the seven deadly sins but on fan of the show has an idea of who they are and are as follow:

Sloth-Patrick
Sloth is the sin of laziness, or unwillingness to act. Obviously this is Patrick. He lies under a rock all the time and doesn’t really do anything. In fact in the episode “Big Pink Loser” he got an award for doing nothing the longest.

Wrath-Squidward
Wrath involves feelings of hatred and anger. Squidward hates his life, usually hates SpongeBob, and is pretty much angry most of the time.

Greed-Mr. Krabs
Obviously Mr. Krabs is greedy and desires money. How could Greed not be Krabs? He actually sang about the power of greed in “Selling Out”.

Envy-Plankton
Plankton is envious of Mr. Krabs because The Krusty Krab is a success while The Chum Bucket is a failure. His envy drives him to try to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula.

Gluttony-Gary
I actually think this one is pretty funny. Did you ever notice the running gag in SpongeBob where they say “don’t forget to feed Gary” or Sponge says “I gotta go feed Gary”. Gary even ran away that time when SpongeBob forgot to feed him. Gluttony usually refers to the overindulgence of food so I’m guessing this one fits him pretty well.

Pride-Sandy
Sandy takes a lot of pride in who she is and where she comes from. She takes pride in the fact that she is from Texas and likes to let everyone know it. She also takes pride in the fact that she is a mammal and a land creature, like in the episode “Pressure” where she tried to prove land critters were better than sea critters.

Lust-SpongeBob
Ok, I know what you’re thinking. It does seem a little weird and curious at first but I have given it a lot of thought. Lust in one definition is “excessive love of others”. I think this one works best for SpongeBob. He shows his love of others with his over eagerness to do well and help people. If anything is true about SpongeBob it’s that he loves everyone around him, even if they don’t exactly love him back.

1.) We can no longer hide units by setting them in a close proximity patrol (ie. Viking flower).

PROTOSS: The Mothership ... Units leaving the Mothership’s Vortex are now un-targetable and immune to damage for 1.5 seconds.

Next generation of annoying packaging enabled by Wireless electricity

Yep, these cereal boxes light up. They’re using a new branded-technology called eCoupling that provides electricity via induction, which means the shelves have a coil with AC power running through it. The “printed coils” on the boxes allow inventory control and data exchange presumably thanks to a low-power microcontroller. But in the video after the break you can see that the printed lighting on the boxes lets them flash parts of the box art as a way to attract customers’ attention.

Fruit Ninja HD for iPad (App Review)

Fruit Ninja is a highly addictive application that has been out for the iPhone / iPod Touch for quite awhile, but never on the iPad. This is easily one of my top 5 favorite applications for the iPhone, maybe even my top application, so I was very excited to hear that an iPad version came out.

The iPad version is called Fruit Ninja HD and is a bit pricy, and at $4.99, I'm sure a lot of you might not buy the application. I was a little disappointed myself it was so expensive, but iPad apps are usually more expensive than iPhone apps.

The iPad version of the application has everything the iPhone version has - there is classic mode and zen mode, the dojo, openfeint, etc. There is one new feature, though, and this is that there is multiplayer mode. In multiplayer mode, you can choose between multiplayer class and multiplayer zen.

3D plans for The Matrix 4 and 5?

Keanu Reeves has revealed that plans are underway for two more sequels to The Matrix. The actor, who appears as lead character Neoin the first three movies in the franchise, told Worstpreviews.comthat he and the writers of the sci-fi franchise, Andy and Larry Wachowski, have discussed the possibility of shooting the two new sequels in 3D.

It is believed the Wachowskis are seeking 3D filmmaking advice fromAvatar creator James Cameron, who with that film helped repopularise the medium.

Reeves said they were keen to deliver something which has "never been seen" and would "truly transform" the action movie genre.

The films won't be coming any time soon. The Wachowskis are looking to complete new movie Cloud Atlasbefore thinking any more about continuing The Matrix series.

Google has developed a technology for cars to drive themselves. And they haven’t done it on a computer, or in some controlled lab, they’ve been out on California roads testing this out. “Our automated cars, manned by trained operators, just drove from our Mountain View campus to our Santa Monica office and on to Hollywood Boulevard. They’ve driven down Lombard Street, crossed the Golden Gate bridge, navigated the Pacific Coast Highway, and even made it all the way around Lake Tahoe. All in all, our self-driving cars have logged over 140,000 miles. We think this is a first in robotics research,” Google engineer Sebastian Thrun (the brainchild of the project who also heads the Stanford AI lab and co-invented Street View as well) writes.

Google notes that 1.2 million people are killed every year in road accidents — they think they can cut this number in half with the tech. It will also cut energy consumption and save people a lot of time.

But don’t get too excited just yet. “Even the most optimistic predictions put the deployment of the technology more than eight years away,” according to NYT.

Facebook Engineer Explains “Worst Outage in Over Four Years”

In a brief blog post, Johnson discussed today’s downtime, which began around 11:30 a.m. PST. The site wasn’t functioning again for most users until around 3 p.m. PST.

Johnson said the downtime today was caused by “an unfortunate handling of an error condition” involving an automated system designed to verify configuration values in the cache and replace invalid values with updated values from the persistent store.

Today we made a change to the persistent copy of a configuration value that was interpreted as invalid. This meant that every single client saw the invalid value and attempted to fix it. Because the fix involves making a query to a cluster of databases, that cluster was quickly overwhelmed by hundreds of thousands of queries a second.

To make matters worse, every time a client got an error attempting to query one of the databases it interpreted it as an invalid value, and deleted the corresponding cache key. This meant that even after the original problem had been fixed, the stream of queries continued.

The automated system for correcting configuration values has been turned off for now, and Facebook is reportedly exploring more, ahem, “graceful” methods of handling this in the future.

We don’t envy Facebook the at-scale disaster the site has just survived; 500 million users and a feedback loop adds up to some nasty business however you slice it. And Facebook’s downtime problems aren’t nearly as persistent and severe as those of other social media staples out there.

The Story:

Set in 1920s Shanghai, the film features Donnie Yen as a local resistance fighter who had been taken for dead after a bloody skirmish. After seeking vengeance on his mentor’s death, it was reported that Chen Zhen was shot to death by the Japanese. Seven years later, Chen Zhen returns to Shanghai in disguise as a wealthy businessman who becomes allies with an infamous mafia boss. Chen Zhen soon discovers that the mafia is in cahoots with the Japanese. Dressed as a superhero that looks similar to Kato from The Green Hornet at night, Chen Zhen sets out to stop evil once and for all while targeting an assassination list that was put together by the Japanese.

The Legend of Chen Zhen stars Donnie Yen, Shu Qi, and Anthony Wong with Donnie Yen providing the martial arts choreography. The action film will be written and produced by Gordon Chan with Andrew Lau in the director’s chair. The film will also be a sequel of sorts rather than a re-telling or a remake.

The Legend of Chen Zhen will be released theatrically on October 1st, 2010 in Hong Kong.

Twitchfilm debuted the first official teaser for The Legend of Chen Zhen earlier this week.

The Legend of Chen Zhen Movie Review

The Return of Chen Zhen is an upcoming 2010 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Andrew Lau. The film is a continuation of the 1995 television series Fist of Fury, with Donnie Yen reprising his role as Chen Zhen, a role made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1972 film Fist of Fury. Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen is set during Japanese-occupied Shanghai, seven years after the events of the series. Principal photography for the film began in November 2009 and ended in early February 2010; filming took place in Shanghai. The film will be released theatrically in Hong Kong on 23 September 2010.

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen will be set seven years after the apparent death of Chen Zhen, who was shot after discovering who was responsible for his teacher’s death (Huo Yuanjia) in Japanese-occupied Shanghai. A mysterious stranger arrives from overseas and befriends a local mafia boss. That man is a disguised Chen Zhen, who intends to infiltrate the mob when they form an alliance with the Japanese. Disguising himself as a caped fighter by night, Chen intends to take out everyone involved as well as get his hands on an assassination list prepared by the Japanese.

The high-profile cast and crew of the new action blockbuster “Legend of Chen Zhen” appeared at the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) on Tuesday, March 23, during the film’s screening, the website M1905 reports.

Director Andrew Lau, supervisor Gordon Chan, choreographer and actor Donnie Yen, actress Funny Shu and actor Anthony Wong all attended the film festival, making their first appearance after completing the film.

The film cost 120 million yuan (US$17.6 million) to make largely because of its stunning martial arts and grand battle scene. It has already garnered attention from overseas film companies.

Yen said he designed action scenes that were completely different from those of his previous movies, hoping to give the audience a brand new audio-visual feast.The Legend Of Chen Zhen is due for release on the 1st October 2010 and although the trailer isn’t very long, i am looking forward to seeing the movie.

The movie is also produced and directed by Andrew Lau who wants to bring the Chen Zhen story (Made famous by Bruce Lee in Fist Of Fury), to the big screen with other movies such as Ip Man and the upcoming Yuen Biao/Sammo Hung film Legend Is Born, bringing back the old period kung fu movies which has taken off big time. But the story actually is set seven years after the death of Chen Zhen and the film shows a mysterious stranger arriving from overseas and befriends a local mafia boss. Also starring Donnie Yen who is choreographing the fight scenes, has mentioned he’d be fighting throughout the film. Donnie Yen says that he’s going to show a unique style of martial arts for Chen Zhen,

“I’m coming up with many new forms of martial arts, there are some very lethal moves, very exciting. But I would spend more time on acting, hoping to have breakthrough in this area, I have confidence in becoming a true-blue actor.”
